The Vintage Garage returns to the parking garage at 5051 N. Broadway today from 9am to 5pm. Shop for antiques, collectibles, clothes and music. CHIRP DJs spin on the "record ramp," featuring vintage vinyl, cds, 8-tracks, tapes, electronics and memorabilia. Admission is $5.
Dozens of architecturally significant buildings, architecture firms and studios throughout the city will be open for tours this weekend during the Chicago Architecture Foundation's annual Open House Chicago. See a list of locations here. All are free, but some require CAF membership for access. The event runs from 9am to 5pm each day.
Modern Vintage Chicago show is at the Plumber's Hall, 1340 W. Washington Ave., Oct. 18-20. Shop for vintage clothing, jewelry and accessories by classic designers, as well new fashion, jewelry and accessories by contemporary designers from Chicago and beyond. Admission is $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Student admission is $3 in advance, $5 at the door. The show is open from 10am to 5pm today.
Northern Grade, a US-made pop-up market, will be in Millennium Park on the South Promenade Saturday and today. Shop among more than 30 fashion, accessory and product brands from Chicago and elsewhere in the nation. The tent is open from 11am to 5pm today.
The Third Coast International Audio Festival presents their annual Filmless Festival, featuring audio productions from around the world, special guests talking about their works, and much more. The festival happens at the Old Town School of Folk Music Saturday and today. Tickets to individual screenings and workshops are $12-20; a full festival pass is $75. The 9th annual Bucktown Apple Pie Contest returns to the Holstein Park Field House, 2200 N. Oakley Ave., from 2 to 5pm today. Come sample the contestants' pies for a couple bucks a slice, and enjoy live music and activities for the kids. Don't forget to stick around to find out who the judges deem the winner. Proceeds benefit Holstein Park.
The Pit will be a staged version of a scene from Frank Norris' 1903 novel, The Pit, about 1890s futures traders. The one-hour event will be presented at the Chicago Board of Trade building by Pocket Guide to Hell tours. It's part of the Chicago Architecture Foundation's Open House Chicago event.
