The Music Box Theatre presents their annual sing-along version of The Sound of Music, opening this afternoon at 4pm. Props for audience-participation moments will be provided, and you are encouraged to dress up as your favorite character for the costume contest. Come to opening night of Dietzel: A Retrospective, showcasing the work of tattooist Amund Dietzel. Displayed at the Milwaukee Art Museum earlier this year, the exhibit features traditional American tattoo photos, paintings, and ephemera from the collection of Jon Reiter, tattooer, tattoo historian, biographer and curator, and will be shown in the gallery space of Great Lakes Tattoo (1148 W. Grand Ave.) This exhibit will function as a fundraiser for Reiter, to help offset medical bills. Dietzel tattoos, limited edition prints, tÂshirts and books will be available for sale, with all proceeds to benefit Reiter.Come to opening night and enjoy appetizers and refreshments from 5pm-10pm. This exhibit runs through January 5, 2014.
The Hideout hosts the latest installment of Claire Zulkey's reading series Funny Ha-Ha, tonight at 6:30pm. This time around, the show features Moth GrandSlam champion and Homemade Stories podcast host Shannon Cason, The Encyclopedia Show's Robbie Telfer, The Kates host Amy Sumpter, "SNL" writer Claire Mulaney, Meaty author Samantha Irby and filmmaker Steve Delahoyde. Lissie headlines Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave., tonight, with Chicago's Purple Apple opening. It's an all ages show, and the doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door. We've got a ticket contest in Transmission.
Chicago's favorite chain-smoking, name-dropping, Frank-Ocean-listenin' MC plays the Riviera Theatre, 4746 N. Racine, on Thanksgiving eve. After Chance's Acid Rap made waves in hip hop this summer, expect nothing less than complete chaos at this hometown show. With DJ Rashad and Spin also on the bill, tickets are $21 in advance and $23 at the door. The show begins at 7:30pm and is all ages. Doors open at 6:30pm. Preview in Transmission.
