If going to Mars Cheese Castle is how you typically get your cheese fix, then save some gas today. Buy a bottle of wine or six-pack of beer, and take it with you to the Great American Cheese Collection from 11am to 3pm today in Brighton Park at 3727 Talman Avenue. LivingSocial hosts BeerFest, a two-day festival of craft beer, Friday and today in the Great Hall at Union Station, 500 W. Jackson St. Your $35 ticket allows you to sample from more than 80 beers, wines and ciders, play fun interactive games and listen to DJs. Food will be available at additional cost. The festival runs in two sessions today, from noon to 3pm and 7 to 10pm; $59 VIP admission gets you in an hour earlier. 21+
The Patio Theater, 6008 W. Irving Park Rd., hosts its second annual free screening of the Christmas classic, It's a Wonderful Life, today at 1pm and 5pm.
Pilipinas Jam, a concert benefiting Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts in the Philippines, kicks off at 1pm today at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. The lineup features David Wycoco, The Heroic Black, Magellan's Killer, Sama Sama Project, Bagwis Collective and Faceless Soul. The event will also feature artwork and photography by Agustina Diez Dierra and Maggie Rife Ponce of The Connection Art Project. Tickets are $15. 21+
The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a screening of Blake Edwards' film The Party, his Jacques Tati-inspired comedy that was reportedly Elvis Presley's favorite film. The Bad Plus, the trio known for its jazz covers of rock music ranging from Black Sabbath to Tears for Fears, plays the third of four nights tonight at Jazz Showcase, 806 S. Plymouth Ct. There are two shows, at 8pm and 10pm. Tickets are $30 or $45 for VIP seating.
Chicago Calling X: A Very Special Clash Christmas, a benefit show for 826CHI, hits Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave., at 8pm tonight. The show features London Calling (a Clash tribute band) and All Mods Conned (a Jam tribute). Tickets are $12. 21+
