WinterDance @ Cultural Center

Like SummerDance, WinterDance is a series of one-hour dance lessons by professional instructors followed by dances hosted by local DJs. WinterDance runs Jan. 3-5 in the Yates Gallery on the 4th floor of the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph St. Today's dance styles are Tango and Milonga -- Tango 21 instructors lead a class at noon, and the Tangata Ensemble perform the Milonga from 1 to 3pm. Free, all ages.

Fillet of Solo Festival

Lifeline Theatre's 17th annual Fillet of Solo Festival of solo performances and storytelling runs Jan. 3-19. Performances are held at the Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., and the Heartland Studio Theatre, 7016 N. Glenwood Ave. Tickets are $10 per show, or $30 for a festival pass, and are available online or at the Lifeline box office.

Housu Mountain Fest @ Empty Bottle

Hausu Mountain Records hosts Housu Mountain Fest tonight at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., starting at 5:30pm, featuring sets by Sam Prekop, Bitchin' Bajas, Mind Over Mirrors, Good Willsmith, Mothcock, Sugarm and Quicksails on two stages. Video art by Brownshoesonly. Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door. 21+

Here's the Story @ Stage 773

Here's the Story returns to Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. Mural artist Rahmaan Statik Barnes, performance artist and poet Angela Oliver, WBEZ events producer and Moth Chicago host Don Hall, writer Katie Liesener and author/blogger Samantha Irby share true stories -- and the show includes five open slots for audience members to join in. Admission is $8, or free if you bring a dish for the potluck dinner that happens before the show. The potluck starts at 7:30pm, show's at 8pm.
