If you feel like live lit events just aren't competitive enough, then this is the bare knuckled literature event for you. Write Club Chicago is six readers who each have 7 minutes to share their opposing ideas, and the audience votes for a winner. The winner gets to chose the nonprofit organization where a portion of the evenings proceeds will be donated. Normally it is only two readers, but tonight you'll get to see three men face off against three women. Arrive at SPACE (1245 Chicago Avenue in Evanston, near the Dempster stop on the Purple line) at 7:00pm (doors open at 6:30pm). Tickets are $10 each for general admission seating.
This event, an extension of last month's Letters to Santa benefit, is not cheap -- tickets start at $300 -- but it's well worth the money if you love comedy and Jeff Tweedy. You'll get a 90-minute set from the Wilco frontman, as well as the comedy stylings of current "Saturday Night Live" and Second City talent (among them Pat O'Brien, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, Beth Melewski, TJ Jagadowski, and Horatio Sanz). Doors open at 6pm, show begins at 7pm; UP Comedy Club is located at 230 W. North Ave.
