Peace on Earth Film Festival

The Peace on Earth Film Festival runs March 6-9 at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St., and features films about peace, nonviolence, social justice and ecology. The festival runs from 11am to 8pm today; see the schedule for films and times. Free.

Wicker Collective Warehouse Sale

The 12 boutiques making up the Wicker Collective -- Trillium, Penelope’s, Study Hall, Kokorokoko, Moon Voyage, Mulberry & Me, Anastasia, Emma, Beyond Boutique, Milk Handmade, Stock Mfg, Madein Jewelry, Zora Jewelry and Shades of Grey Jewelry -- are holding a "warehouse sale" Saturday and today from 11am to 5pm at the Chop Shop, 2033 W. James McMurtry @ City Winery

There's nothing like some thought-provoking, long-winded, Americana protest songs to take the edge off the winter doldrums. James McMurtry will play City Winery twice on Sunday, March 9th. The first show begins at 5:00 p.m., and the second show at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $24-$28.

Chi-Town Jazz Festival @ FitzGerald's & Martyrs'

The Chi-Town Jazz Festival runs March 6-11 at venues around the city. Tonight there are two shows; proceeds benefit Catholic Charities.

At FitzGerald's, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Berwyn, Mosaik, the Garrison/Paliga Octet, and Tammy McCann and the Reunion Orchestra perform. Doors open at 5pm, show's at 6pm. $15 minimum donation required. 21+

At Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., the Goran Ivanovic Trio, the Frank Catalano Band and the Daniel Bruce Trio play beginning at 7pm. Doors open at 6pm. $15 minimum donation required. 21+

Beachbum Berry @ Three Dots and a Dash

Three Dots and a Dash, 435 N. Clark St. (enter in the alley), hosts a book release party for Jeff "Beachbum" Berry's Potions of the Caribbean tonight from 6 to 9pm. Berry will be on hand signing books, and tiki master Paul McGee will be mixing drinks from the book. 21+

Stones Throw Records doc @ Empty Bottle

The live lit series That's All She Wrote is back at The Savoy (1408 N. Milwaukee). This month's lineup features Diana Slickman, James Finn Garner, Edward Thomas-Herrera, and David Kodeski. Hosted as always by JH Palmer and Angela Benander. Stories begin at 8pm, make a dinner reservation to guarantee a seat. This is a free event.
