Story Week

Columbia College's Story Week Festival of Writers runs March 16-21. Today's events include publishing bootcamp sessions beginning at 9am, a panel on the publishing ecosystem at 2pm, a discussion of translation at 5pm, and Palabra Pura: Noche de Novelas at 7pm. All events are free; see the schedule for complete details and locations.

Big Ups @ Cobra Lounge

Big Ups' Eighteen Hours of Static sounds like it's some lost Dischord record from the early 1990s. It's talkative (more Rollins-era Black Flag than Craig Finn) and blistering on the choruses, especially "Goes Black." It's also pretty exciting. Big Ups headline Cobra Lounge. Chicago bands Typesetter and Hot Broadcast open. The show's at 9PM, 21+ and $10. Cobra Lounge is at 235 N Ashland.

Guts & Glory @ Schubas

Come to Schubas (upstairs), 3159 N. Southport, tonight at 7pm for Chicago's boldest and most bad-ass storytelling event. This brave and bold live-lit show is hosted by Samantha Irby and Keith Ecker. Tonight's featured performers include Melinda McIntire, Greg Morelli, Chloe Johnston, Naomi Huffman, and Bob Stockfish. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm. Free, 21+

Soup and Bread @ The Hideout

Volunteer chefs serve up soup tonight from 5:30 to 8pm at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., at this weekly benefit for food pantries/hunger relief organizations in the area (a different one is selected each week). This week's dinner is themed "the Hills," and Gapers Block's Drive-Thru staff will be serving up two soups. Show up, eat, and donate what you can. Free.
