Chicago Latino Film Festival

The Chicago Latino Film Festival runs April 4-17. Films primarily screen at the AMC River East 21, 322 E. Illinois St., as well as the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St.; see the full schedule for showtimes and locations.

Vocalo #hatersball @ Chop Shop

Vocalo hosts its first annual #hatersball, a fundraiser and concert, at Chop Shop, 2033 W. North Ave. Doors open at 6pm for the Haters Mingle, featuring sets by Jesse De La Peña and Shazam Bangles, craft cocktails by Johnny Costello of the Berkshire Room and food by Chop Shop restaurant. Then at 10pm, The K.I.D. featuring JC Brooks perform, with DJ Ayana Contreras opening. An afterparty with DJ Charlie and Bizzon starts at midnight. Tickets are $50 for the whole night or $25 for The K.I.D. show and afterparty. 21+

Kieran McGonnell @ Ugly Step Sister Art Gallery

The late artist, Kieran McGonnell is having a three-month long exhibition entitled, Round Trip Ticket, in Pilsen at the Ugly Step Sister Art Gallery. The opening reception is tonight from 6-10pm at 1750 S. Union Ave. Event is free and open to the public.

Dean Wareham @ Old Town School

Dean Wareham, former frontman of Galaxie 500 and Luna, plays two shows tonight at the Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave. The first, at 7pm, features songs from his solo career, especially his latest album, Emancipated Hearts. The second, at 10pm, features Wareham and Britta Phillips performing the songs of Galaxie 500. Advance Base opens both shows. Tickets to each are $28.

Favorite Poem Project @ Poetry Foundation

The Favorite Poem Project comes to Chicago for an event at the Poetry Foundation, 61 W. Superior St., tonight from 7 to 9pm. Find out the favorite poems of Mayor Emanuel and five other Chicagoans as part of the video initiative. The evening is hosted by former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky and the Poetry Foundation President Robert Polito. RSVP to Ashley Sheehan at 312-799-8026 or in person at the Poetry Foundation. Moroccan Chronicles @ Block Cinema

Block Cinema at Northwestern, 40 Arts Circle Dr., presents Moroccan Chronicles: The Films of Moumen Smihi, April 10-11 and 17-18. Tonight's screening is 44, or Tales of the Night, at 7pm. Director Smihi will be present. Admission is free.

Black Playwrights Festival

The ninth annual Black Playwrights Festival runs April 8-13 at the Black Ensemble Theatre, 4450 N. Clark St. Each night showcases a different playwright; tonight features Ervin Gardner's The Trial Of Moses Fleetwood Walker at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 per night, or $50 for a festival pass. Red Bull Sound Select @ Cobra Lounge

Red Bull Sound Select, curated by Do312, is at Cobra Lounge, 235 N. Ashland Ave., tonight at 8pm with Andrew W.K., Ghosthouse, Vamos and Kitty Crimes. Tickets are $5 with RSVP or $15 at the door. 21+
