The Chicago Latino Film Festival runs April 4-17. Films primarily screen at the AMC River East 21, 322 E. Illinois St., as well as the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St.; see the full schedule for showtimes and locations.
The Hideout presents the monthly meeting of Write Club. Founder Ian Belknap presides over a series of literary bouts, as various Chicago actors and authors take up opposing viewpoints and give a rousing speech. The winner, judged by a panel of knowledgeable experts, receives a donation for his or her preferred charity. Write Club starts at 7:00pm, and admission is $10 at the door. Hideout: 1354 W. Wabansia. The Poetry Foundation, 61 W. Superior St., hosts its monthly Open Door reading series tonight at 7pm, featuring CM Burroughs, Andre Price, Ruben Quesada and Tanya Young. Free.
Open Books and the Laugh Factory Chicago present Open Books and Laugh: Stand Up for Literacy tonight at the Laugh Factory, 3175 N. Broadway, at 8pm (doors open at 7:30pm). Tickets are $20, or $30 for VIP seating; proceeds benefit Open Books.
The Burlington hosts an evening of poppy, moody, and noisy sounds tonight at 9pm, featuring MTV Ghosts with Detective Novel and Careful Q. $5.
