Steven Szegedi Collage Exhibition @ Harold Washington Library

Long time artist, Steven Szegedi, AKA Vaucanson's Workshop is introducing his work to a wider audience with his exhibition, Sergeant Vaucanson's Raree-Show, at the Harold Washington Library, 400 S State Street (eighth floor), from today until May 30th. Steven has a studio at the Bridgeport Art Center as well and will be having open studios in the near future.

Bulgarian Writers and Their Translators Talk @ Seminary Co-op Bookstore

This evening at 6pm, Seminary Co-op Bookstore (5751 S. Woodlawn Ave.) and the University of Chicago's Center for East European and Russian/Eurasian Studies bring together two prominent Bulgarian authors with their translators. In addition to reading from their novels, Virginia Zaharieva and Albena Stambolova will discuss what it was like to collaborate on their translations with Angela Rodel and Olga Nikolova, respectively. Preview in Book Club. Free.

Moroccan Chronicles @ Block Cinema

Block Cinema at Northwestern, 40 Arts Circle Dr., presents Moroccan Chronicles: The Films of Moumen Smihi, April 10-11 and 17-18. Tonight's screening is a double feature of Girls and Swallows and Tanjawi: The Sorrows of a Young Tangerian, at 7pm. Admission is free.

Orquestra Aragón @ Mayne Stage

Cuban charanga band Orquestra Aragón plays two sets at the Mayne Stage, 1330 W. Morse Ave., tonight, at 7:30pm and 10pm. Tickets are $30, with guaranteed VIP seating for $40. 18+

Funk Fest @ Subterranean

Harmonica Dunn presents Funk Fest Chicago tonight and Saturday at Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave. Tonight's lineup includes BQ, Swamp Heat, The New Sound Underground, Low Spark, The Need and the Night (Gina Bloom and Chuck Sansone of The Congregation) and DJ Mr. GAC. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, which opens at 8pm. Two day passes are available for $20. 17+

Kid Sister @ Reggies

Kid Sister plays her first Chicago show in awhile tonight at Reggies, 2105 S. State St., with ShowYouSuck, Syd Tha Kid and Angel opening. Doors are at 8:30pm. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. 18+
