Andersonville Summer Sidewalk Sale

The stores of Andersonville are taking to the streets! Take stroll the sidewalks between 5000 to 5800 North Clark Street to peruse bargain-priced wares, courtesy of the neighborhood's local businesses. The event runs all weekend, so there's plenty of opportunity to see the sales.

Chicago Criterium Bike Race -- Part of the Intelligentsia Cup

The eight-day Intelligentsia Cup finds it's way to Chicago for a full day of racing beginning at 10am on Fulton and Walnut streets between Damen and Paulina. There is no cost for spectators, and anybody wishing to race must have a USA Cycling License and pay between $53 and $63 based on the race they'd like to compete in. A fixed gear race will also be a part of the festivities, which is open to anyone over the age of 18 (no license necessary) who have bikes that meet explicit requirements -- with a fee of $30. Note that there is a registration limit on all events.

30th Annual Book Fair @ Newberry Library

The Newberry Library, 60 W Walton St, celebrates the 30th year of its Book Fair on July 24 through July 27. Everything for sale at the Book Fair has been generously donated, and this year's items include books autographed by President Obama, Desmond Tutu, and Albert Schweitzer (all Nobel Peace Prize winners); a large offering of 17th and 18th century French literature (in French); many books of Japanese and Chinese poetry (translated); and much more.

Hours are Thursday-Friday, noon to 8pm, and Saturday-Sunday, 10am to 6pm. Admission is free and open to the public. All proceeds help further the mission of the Newberry.

2014 Bughouse Square Debates @ Washington Square Park

On Saturday, July 26, The Newberry Library and Chicago Tribune columnist Rick Kogan host the 2014 Bughouse Square Debates at Washington Square Park, 901 N Clark St (across from the Newberry). There will be musical performances at noon, and the debates will begin at 1pm.

The program includes performances by the Shakespeare Project of Chicago and the Environmental Encroachment Marching Band; and lending their voices to the public discourse are 2014 John Peter Altgeld Award for Freedom of Speech winners Ben Joravsky and Mick Dumke. Soapbox Speakers will include candidate for 2nd Ward Alderman, Enrique G. Perez; author Mike Flores; and Brian Terrell of Voices for Creative Nonviolence.

Word Weekend @ MCA

The Museum of Contemporary Art, 200 E. Chicago Ave., hosts Word Weekend today and Sunday, featuring a variety of performances, installations and readings -- see the schedule for details. Activities run from noon to 10:30pm today; admission is free after 5pm.

Wicker Park Fest

Wicker Park Fest runs today and Sunday on Milwaukee Avenue between Paulina and North. Enjoy live music on three stages, check out arts and crafts vendors, eat tasty food and take the little ones to the kids fest. The festival is open from noon to 10pm. $5 donation requested.

Bike to Brew

The Active Transportation Alliance hosts Bike to Brew, a group ride from downtown to the Northwest Side, today, starting with a pre-ride party from 3 to 5pm at Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington St. Meet folks from Divvy, The Chainlink and Keating Law, enjoy Dark Matter Coffee and pick up the route map. From there, the 8-mile ride goes up to the Revolution Brewery, 3340 N. Kedzie Ave., for a party with beer, food trucks and a DJ. Registration is $35 and includes admission to the pre-ride festival and the party at the brewery, colored valve-cap lights and a beer ticket. 21+

Chicago Summerdance: Chicago House Party! @ Spirit of Music Garden

If you missed this year's Chosen Few Old School Reunion Picnic, jack your body with your fellow house heads at Chicago House Party! in Grant Park's Spirit of Music Garden. Chosen Few DJ Alan King gets things going at 6:00pm with a 90 minute set, followed by DJ Gene Hunt spinning until 9:00pm. The Spirit of Music Garden is located at 601 S. Michigan Avenue. This event is free.

Physical Festival @ Links Hall

The inaugural Physical Festival of physical theatre runs July 25-Aug. 2 in Links Hall at Constellation, 3111 N. Western Ave. Tonight's performances are Etiquette Unraveled at 7pm and Lázaro at 9pm; see the schedule for details. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door, with festival passes available for $35.

Lounge Devils' Variety-Ville @ Portage Theater

The Lounge Devils present Variety-Ville, a Vaudeville-inspired variety show, tonight from 7:30pm to midnight at the Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave. The evening's entertainment will include lounge singers, comedians, magicians, hula hoopers, a strong man and more. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

Filmspotting Episode #500 @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre hosts the WBEZ podcast Filmspotting as they tape their 500th show this evening at 9:30pm. Surprises, special guests, and top 5 lists are all on the schedule for the evening.
