MAS Context presents The Contextual Megastructure: Design after Urban Renewal, a lecture by Alison Fisher, assistant curator of architecture and design at the Art Institute of Chicago, tonight at 6:30pm at the International Museum of Surgical Science, 1524 N. Lake Shore Dr. Doors open at 6pm. Admission is free, but RSVP required.
The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., and Chicago Film Archives presents CFA Crashers, a continuing series of non-CFA members putting together a program of films with no rules or restrictions. Tonight's crasher is none other than Christen Carter, head of Busy Beaver Button Company. The show runs from 6 to 8pm, and admission is $5.
Women & Children First, 5233 N. Clark St., is holding a party tonight at 7pm to help push its renovation crowdfunding effort over the goal. The party will feature readings by Samantha Irby, Nikki Patin, Dana Norris and Rebecca Kling, plus music, light refreshments and a raffle for autographed books.
Story Club hosts an evening of stories at Jimmy, the bar at the James Hotel, 610 N. Rush St., tonight at 7:30pm. The theme, appropriately enough, is "Veterans or Why We Served." Featured readers include US Navy veteran Willa Taylor, US Marine Corp veteran Chuck Smith and veteran essayist Julie Danis, sharing stories about boot camp, veteran travels and veterans they never knew but wish they did. There will also be three open mic slots. $10 suggested donation at the door. 21+
Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., presents Deerhoof with Priests and White Reaper tonight for a 17-and-over show. Doors are at 8pm, show's at 9pm. Tickets are $15.
