Sarah Ruhl @ Women & Children First

Playwright Sarah Ruhl reads from and signs her new book of essays, 100 Essays I Don't Have Time to Write: On Umbrellas and Sword Fights, Parades and Dogs, Fire Alarms, Children, and Theate, tonight at 7pm at Women & Children First, 5233 N. Clark St. Everyone who attends will receive a $5 off coupon to Remy Bumppo's production of Ruhl's play The Clean House, now playing through Jan. 11.

Do-It-Yourself Messiah @ Harris Theater

The 39th annual Do-It-Yourself Messiah is performed Sunday and tonight at the Harris Theater for the Performing Arts, 205 E. Randolph St. Sunday's performance is sold out, but $15 tickets are still available for tonight's 7pm show.

Jamaican Queens @ Hideout

Detroit's Jamaican Queens headline the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., tonight, with Kinky Love opening. Sure to be a high-energy night. Doors are at 7pm, show's at 8pm. Tickets are $8. 21+

Third Annual Woman Power Holiday Show @ Schubas

Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave., presents the Woman Power Holiday Show, featuring female-fronted bands Diana & the Dishes, Everybody Says Yes and Birdie Wing. Show starts at 8pm, tickets are $15, and it's a 21+ show. Proceeds go to benefit Global Girls, an education organization for girls in the South Shore neighborhood.

Alternative Christmas Double Feature @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., screens the alternative Christmas double feature of Home Alone and Die Hard tonight, beginning at 8:30pm. Tickets are $10 for both films.
