Morton Feldman Chamber Players @ Constellation

Constellation, 3111 N. Western Ave, currently Chicago's most prolific venue for modern classical/new music, presents a rare performance of a piece by composer Morton Feldman. Feldman's 90+ minute piece, "Patterns in a Chromatic Field," is scored for cello and piano, and performed by the Morton Feldman Chamber Players, a new Chicago-based group dedicated to interpreting Feldman's music. Feldman's later pieces (such as "Patterns...") were created based on the composer's love of the intricate patterns in Persian rugs, where repetitions of patterns are broken by small, nearly imperceptible variations. As the piece takes at least 90 uninterrupted minutes to perform, considerable endurance, subtlety and sensitivity is required by performers and audience ears alike. Performances of Feldman's music are few and far between (ICE's performance of his "Routine Investigations" in 2011 whet our appetites), so this concert should be considered a must-not-miss. Tickets are $12, show starts at 8:30pm.
