The Hideout hosts the monthly gathering of Write Club, the only sporting event fought with words, not fists or swords or sword-fists. Two local writers go head-to-head, each taking up a contrary position of an important topic (PAPER vs. PLASTIC, ANALOG vs. DIGITAL, FIGHT vs. FLIGHT, etc.) and one is crowned winner by a jury of peers/audience members. Write Club starts at 7:00pm, and admission is $10 at the door. Proceeds go to the charities picked by the participants. Hideout: 1354 W. Wabansia. (773) 227-4433.

Story Club South Side is back at the Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan St., tonight at 7:30pm. The theme is "Return of the Short Month," in which each reader has a little less time so that more people can fit in. Featured readers will be Joe Janes, Luis Tubens, Michelle Cabral, Randal Coburn, Alif Muhammed and Sarah Rose Graber -- plus a couple open mic slots, as always. Andrew Marikis hosts. $10 donation at the door, BYOB.
Tonight at 8 p.m. CH Distillery (564 W Randolph) kicks off its guest bartender series with Patric Gerstmayr from Graham Elliot Bistro. The guest bartender series will continue with a new bartender, on the second Tuesday of each month, through August.
