The Art Institute of Chicago is welcoming artist, Liz Larner, for a solo exhibition of her sculptural work today until September 27th. The AIC is located at 111 S. Michigan Ave.; hours are Mon-We, Fri-Sun 10:30-5; Thu 10:30-8.
The Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo, aka C2E2, runs April 24-26 at McCormick Place, 2301 S. Martin Luther King Dr. Attend panels and screenings, meet comic book artists, check out special performances, buy memorabilia and meet celebrities such as wrestler CM Punk, Haley Atwell of "Agent Carter," director Kevin Smith, Ming-Na Wen of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sylvester McCoy of "Doctor Who" and actor Sean Astin. The show runs from 11am to 7pm today. Tickets for today are $30 in advance, $40 at the door; three-day passes are $60 in advance, $70 at the door.
The 18th annual Chicago Improv Festival runs April 20-26 at multiple locations. There are 28 shows at a dozen different venues tonight, beginning at 1:30pm. Ticket prices vary, see site for details.
Version Festival 15 runs April 23 to May 3. The theme this year is "100 Watts" in honor of organizer Public Media Institute's newly licensed low-power radio station. Tonight's events include live broadcasts of two shows at the Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan St. The Not the Basement Show is from 5 to 8pm and the Late Show runs from 9 to 11pm. Admission to each broadcast is $5.
Michigan's finest singer-songwriter returns to his favorite state tonight at the Chicago Theater (175 N. State) tonight in support of his newest album Carrie & Lowell; Little Scream opens. Show starts 7:30pm; tickets $35.
The Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave., welcomes Grammy-winning ensemble eighth blackbird for a concert tonight at 8pm. Tickets are $25.
The Silent Film Society of Chicago presents a screening of Laugh, Clown, Laugh, starring Lon Chaney and Loretta Young, tonight at 8pm at the Patio Theater, 6008 W. Irving Park Rd. Young's son, Chris Lewis, will be in attendance for a Q&A after the show. Tickets are $10.
The human-fly fronted Ice Balloons will be returning to the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. The group features members from Samiam, Wild Yak, and TV on the Radio. They are the brashest art noise band you will ever see and surely enjoy. They will be joined by the equally as exuberant Odonis Odonis. This is a 21+ show and the loudness kicks off at 9pm. Tickets are only $8.
Bump & Grindcore is back at Beauty Bar, 1444 W. Chicago Ave., tonight with tribute to Pharrell Williams featuring sets by DJ Demchuk, All the Way Kay and Danny Leroy, plus a photobooth by GlitterGuts and nail art by Wolf Ram & Hart. ProbCause and Hologram Kizzie (aka Psalm One) come together at ZRO FOX tonight at the Hideout, 1354 W.
