Forty of the best art, craft, and more vendors will be selling beautiful items today as part of the Chicago Art Girls POP-UP SHOP. You'll be able to pick up great gifts for Mother's Day, Father's Day, and for yourself. The show runs from 10am to 5pm at Bell Elementary School located at 3730 N. Oakley Ave. They will also be raising funds for women at Sarah's Circle who are homeless or who need a safe space.
The third annual Chicago Critics Film Festival runs May 1-7 at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave. Today's films include a shorts program at 1pm; Slow West at 3pm, People, Places, Things at 5pm; Batkid Begins at 7:30pm with director Dana Nachman and writer/editor Kurt Kuenne on hand for a Q&A; and The Keeping Room at 10pm. The Hyde Park Art Center will be hosting the group exhibition, Cosmosis, today from 2-5PM with refreshments and a live DJ set in collaboration with the experimental sound station. The exhibition is on view until August 23rd. The HPAC is located at 5020 S. Cornell Avenue.
Thalia Hall, 1807 S, Allport St., hosts Speed Rack, an all-female speed bartending competition, today at 4pm. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Proceeds benefit breast cancer charities. 21+
Version Festival 15 runs April 23 to May 3. The theme this year is "100 Watts" in honor of organizer Public Media Institute's newly licensed low-power radio station. Tonight's closing event is an art exhibition and Korean Polish BBQ. Other Voices and Sons of the Sun will perform live. Admission is free.
Under the Gun Theater, 956 W. Newport Ave. presents "Diversified," three nights of comedy in all its diverse forms. Curated by Elizabeth Gomez, tonight's lineup includes storytelling by Catherine Savage, a character study by Alexandra Tsarpalas, improv by Jennifer Kaesheimer, and stand-up by Claire Swanson, Martin Morrow, Scott Duff, Jamie Campbell and Alima Belconis. The show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $12.
