This happens tonight at 6:00pm at Catalyst Chicago (650 West Lake Street); admission is $5 for food, $10 for food + art, and $19.95 for food + art + artist-customized USB drive. More details at the Facebook event page.

Heather McAdams @ Sulzer Regional Library

Chicago artist Heather McAdams will be presenting her work Comic Strips, Movie Clips, & Potato Chips tonight at 6pm at Sulzer Regional Library, located at 4455 N. Lincoln Ave. The exhibit showcases her self-portraits, comics, and needlepoint designs of country music stars. During the event, she will also present her series of 16mm short films that spotlight jazz, folk, and country music, as well as vintage television ads, movie trailers, and more. McAdams is well-known for her work as a cartoonist at the Chicago Reader. Admission to the event is free.

A Celebration of International Poetry @ Poetry Foundation

The Poetry Society of America continues its 2015 national series, A Celebration of International Poetry, at the Poetry Foundation, 61 W. Superior St., tonight at 7pm. Tonight's installment features five emerging poets from Africa: Amy Lukau, Tsitsi Jaji, Ladan Osman, Viola Allo, and Warsan Shire, whose work has been recently published in the New Generation African Poets chapbook series. Co-editors Chris Abani and Kwame Dawes, along with APBF Editorial Board Member Matthew Shenoda, will discuss the project and introduce the emerging poets, who will then read from their work. The event is free, but space is limited and seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.
