River North Chicago Dance Company Announces 2010-2011 Season
At its 20th anniversary celebratory event, River North Chicago Dance Company announced its repertoire for the 2010-2011 season. The upcoming season begins with a series of open rehearsals, student show, and public performance on October 23 at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie.
RNCDC's fall performance, featuring a world premiere by Sidra Bell, takes place on November 13 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. Additionally, the company has expanded its winter engagement to include three performances, which showcase a world premiere by internationally recognized tango dancers Sabrina and Ruben Veliz. Harris Theater also houses the winter series.
The company concludes its Chicago season on April 16 when the company presents a suite of pieces set to Miles Davis works at Auditorium Theatre. Artistic Director Frank Chaves noted that this program returns the company to its "roots with the jazziness of Miles Davis works."
Also at the 20th anniversary celebration, RNCDC announced Gail Kalver's appointment as the company's new artistic director. During the 2009-2010 season, Kalver, serving as an interim, led the company to a notable 2009-2010 season, including five premieres, and national recognition from Dance Magazine.
