MDW Part Two + Hand-in-Glove Conference
The wildly popular and successful MDW Fair of last spring is happening again this October 21-23 at the Geolofts. Formed as a collaborative project between the Public Media Institute, Roots & Culture and threewalls, the MDW Fair was conceived as a showcase for independent art initiatives, spaces, galleries and artist groups from the Chicago metropolitan area -- basically what NEXT was eight or nine years ago, but on a larger scale.
This time around, independent art spaces from around the country are encouraged to apply -- presumably as a tactic to get the Chicago art world more national attention. SO if you've got an art space, send 10 images of the artist or pair of artists you want to feature at the fair to mdwfair(at)gmail(dot)com by September 19. Images should be sent as a zip file along with a short mission statement/bio about the presenters and 500 words about the artist(s) for exhibition. Successful applicants will be notified by early October with details. All booth spaces are 300 sq feet/$300.
If you don't plan on participating in the fair, mark your calendars for it, because it is sure to be one of the most engaging and exiting large-scale art events of the year.
Also, running in tandem with the fair, the Hand-in-Glove conference at the same location at the same time should be worth checking out. More info on that can be found here.
