Announcing the First Annual Gapers Block Valentines Dance-a-Thon
Gapers Block is hosting our first annual Valentines Dance-a-Thon on Sunday, February 12 at Quenchers Saloon in Logan Square. We are looking for dancers and refs to take part in the event, and all are welcome to come and spectate.
Watch and heckle your friends as they dance for their chance for a cash prize, or sign up to dance yourself; It sure beats the chalky candies that you were planning on devouring while watching that Lifetime Movie Network marathon. There will be beer and live music, which is already better than that meetup you were going to attend. This event is free to the public.
From 3pm to 6pm, 15 to 20 couples will compete in a three-hour dance-a-thon for the chance at a cash prize from Gapers Block. Second and third place winners will also receive a prize, but if you want the cash you have to sweep the event so come prepared to DANCE! The entire event will be photographed and featured on Gapers Block.
Referees from Gapers Block and the community will be present to ensure that everyone plays fair. There will be several challenges throughout the event, and the winners will be issued chips that are worth extra minutes, which can be used for bathroom breaks or brief rests. At the end of the event, time left standing plus minutes accrued will be tallied to determine the winner. There will be a sudden-death dance-off in the event of a tie.
The entry fee is $100 per couple. You're welcome -- encouraged, in fact -- to raise that money through pledges from friends. And bring those friends along! They can buy additional minute chips to help give you the edge (or another run to the restroom) as the clock ticks down.
If you would like to compete in the first annual Gapers Block Dance-A-Thon, please email events@gapersblock.com with questions, or register on Eventbrite. If you'd like to be considered as a referee, please email us as well!
