Preview: Chicago Artists' Coalition's Starving Artist Gala

cacstarvingartist2012.jpgThe Chicago Artists' Coalition's annual Starving Artist benefit event is this Saturday, Oct. 6. Once again, four artists have been paired with four chefs to create artwork and food inspired by each other.

Photographer Laura Letinsky teams up with food preservationist Tara Lane of Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, multimedia artist Jeanne Dunning pairs with executive chef Jared Van Camp of Nellcôte, conceptual artist Erik Peterson collaborates with chef de cuisine Erling Wu-Bower of Avec (formerly sous chef at Publican Quality Meats), and multimedia artist Jenny Kendler works with executive chef Beverly Kim of Bonsoirée.

The chefs' "edible installations" will be enjoyed by attendees, while the artists' creations will be exhibited and sold in an auction the night of the event. Last year's event was a great success, with both artists and chefs delivering beautiful and delicious works of art, and the event raised more than $20,000. See our interviews with last year's participants in A/C and Drive-Thru.

The four pairs' work will be unveiled throughout the evening, introduced by The Power of Cheer male cheerleading squad. In addition to the featured pairings, several other culinary-artistic pairings will be on display throughout the neight for your gazing and grazing pleasure:
Vosges Haut-Chocolat in collaboration with Baccara Collective
Glazed and Infused and Gary Poppins in collaboration with Jim Zimpel
Solemn Oath Brewery in collaboration with Industry of the Ordinary
Publican Quality Meats and Old Town Social in a "charcuterie battle"

Tickets for Starving Artist 2012 are $150, and are on sale now; a limited number of "Secret Society" VIP tickets are available for $200, and include access to the chef/artist lounge and after-party. The event on Saturday, Oct. 6 opens at 7pm at the Chicago Artists' Coalition, 217 N. Carpenter St.
