Saturday Strip: Comics Day @ MCA!
This Saturday, July 27, celebrate Saturday Strip: Comic Day at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 220 E. Chicago Ave. Free with museum admission, events are scheduled from 10am-5pm. Comic Day comes on the heels of current exhibit Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes showcasing the work of the legendary comic artist.
There's artwork, film screenings, and performances all day long. It begins right upon entry to the museum. The cartoonist collective Trubble Club will work on a large chalk drawing on the front plaza over the course of the day. As you step into the lobby, Quimby's Bookstore and the MCA bookstore will present a small scale comic fair with publications for sale until 6pm.

But wait, there's more! A slew of workshops and discussions are scheduled throughout the day. Highlights include the Eyeworks Festival of Animation co-founders, Alexander Stewart and Lilli Carré hosting an animation workshop throughout the day. Eyeworks will also screen animation from 10am-1:30pm in the Edlis Neeson Theater.
A themed workshop titled the Cartoonist Studio will be lead by renown local comics artists Paul Hornschemeier from 11:30 am-1 pm and Jeffrey Brown from 2-4pm.
The Second City will perform improve based on Daniel Clowes comics. A Comic Art Battle will be held in the Sculpture Garden lead by battle creator and artist Ezra Claytan Daniels. Performative reading series Brain Frame will host a reading featuring comix notables Corinne Mucha, Eric Rivera, Halle Butler and Ian Endsley. And not to be missed, the Ladydrawers Comics Collective will host a discussion on the representation of women in independent comics.
To close out the night enjoy screenings of Ghost World and Art School Confidential two films based on comics by Daniel Clowes. Tickets are available at the MCA Box Office.
