Chicago Book Expo to Feature Speakers, Literary Events, Book Sales

The Chicago Book Expo will be 11am-5pm Saturday at Columbia College, 1104 S. Wabash. The free event will have 75+ exhibitors selling books, including local presses, authors and literary organizations.

Seventeen sessions featuring more than 40 Chicago authors and other literary events are on the schedule. Here are some highlights:

Novelists Ana Castillo and Cristina Henriquez in conversation

Ian Belknap celebrates the publication of Bare-Knuckled Lit: The Best of Write Club

Michael Caplan, director of the film documentary, Algren, in conversation with Bill Savage about Nelson Algren

Playwright Zayd Dohrn and novelist Rachel DeWoskin discuss their work adapting DeWoskin's memoir Foreign Babes in Beijing to the screen as a television series for HBO

Talks and signings from Chicago writers including Rebecca Makkai, Ian Morris, Kathleen Rooney, Jac Jemc, Megan Stielstra, David MacLean, Rick Perlstein, and Laura Kipnis

Programs on the history of black Chicago, the art of the short story, and the Chicago Teachers' Strike

Special sessions of the 1001 Chicago Afternoons and the Marble Room reading series
