Wicker Park and West Town Celebrate Neighborhood Lit Day

Wicker Park & West Town Lit Day is Saturday, Sept. 26 at various locations in these neighborhoods. A group of local organizations and businesses is getting together to promote all things literary in their bordering neighborhoods.

The Lit Day event day poster was designed by Susie Kirkwood.

The idea of read local and shop small is the main focus in this neighborhood lit walk of sorts. Partnering organizations include 826CHI, Chicago Publishers Resource Center, Chicago Public Library, Quimby's Bookstore, Revolution Bookstore and Volumes Bookcafe. All will be open their regular hours. Here is a list of events and specials throughout the day.

The Chicago Public Library West Town Branch Library, located at 1625 W. Chicago Ave.,
has a Mini-Maker Lab this month. There are classes (ages 14+) at 10am-1pm and 3-5pm to make a 3D fridge magnet and a Maker Lab drop-in and Q&A from 1 to 2pm. Plus don't slack and register or renew your library card while you're out.

The Chicago Publishers Resource Center (CHIPRC) at 858 N. Ashland Ave. will be hosting artists events with a showing from 12-5pm of the Proud Moments Art Show and a Figure Drawing class at 6pm.

Quimby's Bookstore, located at 1854 W. North Ave., opens it doors from 11am to 10pm, where one can shop for independent publications, comics, zines and books from local authors as well as writers from around the world. Those lucky adult shoppers can also get a secret surprise refreshment with purchase.

Revolution Books Chicago, located at 1103 N Ashland Ave., hosts a book club discussing Toni Morrison's latest book, God Help the Child, at 11am, and welcomes author Christopher Benson for a reading from Death of Innocence: The Story of the Hate Crime that Changed America, on the murder of Emmett Till, at 2pm.

826CHI, at 1276 N Milwaukee Ave. fronted by their Secret Agent Supply Co., is open from 11am to 6pm. Shop for espionage gadgets and books written by 826CHI students.

Volumes Bookcafe, 1474 N. Milwaukee Ave., is a new book café coming soon to the neighborhood. Walk by and say hi as they prepare for their grand opening this fall.
