No HFCS? WTF?

National chain Jason's Deli (which has a South Loop location) has announced that they will no longer use high fructose corn syrup in its foods. Can this succeed? While Coca-Cola made with cane sugar is quite superior to the standard blend made with HFCS, the jury remains out as to whether the bread quality can survive Jason's new policy.

If it's just the bread, they should be fine. There's lots of good bread in grocery stores without HFCS. Well, I shouldn't say "lots" as there are far more breads with HFCS than without it. But if you read the ingredients lists you should be able to find a good brand. They usually just use regular sugar or brown sugar in its place.

They have had HFCS free bread for several years now. Removing the trans fats from food was harder than the HFCS. Food manufacturers use HFCS because it is so cheap compared to regular sugar. It doesn't really change the flavor profile all that much. You can really tell in soda but other products not so much.
