Depressing Soup

As the current economy is reaching Great Depression-esqe limitations, the S-T reviewed the measures that people took back then to survive, among them making soup from weeds such as dandelions and milkweed , and of course soup made of diluted ketchup (hey, at least it's still a vegetable).

Great article!

I don't know about the ketchup soup but rediscovering some of these "survival" foods from the depression era is pretty exciting. We shouldn't be surprised when we start seeing local weeds on restaurant menus this spring.

Dandelion greens are actually quite delicious and remind me of arugula. Don't know if I'd consider them "survival" food. They're particularly good with a little bacon fat drizzled over them and served with eggs and bacon.
