Delightful Pastries Comes to Old Town...with Chocolate

delightfulpastries.jpgThe second outpost of Delightful Pastries, Dobra Bielinski and Stasia Hawyrszczuk's European-inspired enterprise, opened in Old Town last Friday. Unlike the Jefferson Park location, the Old Town space is a cafe that is at once expansive and cozy. It already seemed, early on Sunday morning, to be part of the morning routine of people from the neighborhood who settled in for pastry and coffee with their families and newspapers.

One of the most notable additions to Delightful Pastries' offerings with the new store is an array of hand-crafted chocolate confections. All made from Callebaut chocolate, opening weekend selections included dark chocolate pistachio cherry bark, milk chocolate salted almond bark, milk chocolate passionfruit apricot truffles and Swiss Rockers (milk chocolate hazelnut praline truffles). Bielinski will debut additional chocolates in the coming weeks.

Prices for the new confections range from $20/lb for the bark varieties to $50/lb for truffles. With Jay Shindler's Catering <> Chocolate immediately next door and The Fudge Pot down the street, it remains to be seen if there is such a thing as too much chocolate for Old Town. The new Delightful Pastries is at 1710 N. Wells St., 312-255-0724.

I have been excited to see them working on the store. I was sad when Breadsmith left because I was stuck getting bread at Treasure Island. DP has a really good 7 grain bread that I used to buy at the farmer's markets so hopefully they will have it at the new store.

I have had the pleasure of eating many of the fine confetions from Delightful Pastries and they always leave me wanting more. The rich chocolates and real ingrediants do the trick for me!

Kudos to the Delightful Pastries staff!!
