Say What, Seitan?
Mark your calendars for Chicago VeganMania: a festival of "vegan culture, commerce, community, couture and cuisine."
Authors of awesomely named books -- including The Sexual Politics of Meat and Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World -- will be in attendance, as will the founder of Mercy for Animals, an acclaimed local raw foods chef, and a doctor who testified as an expert witness on Oprah's behalf at her "meat defamation" trial. Live music will include worldbeat free jazz, countrified punk rock, and modern bluegrass folk, and merch/info booths will feature everything from crafters to outreach groups to spiritual associations to vegan buying clubs.
Oh, and there'll be food. Lots of food, from vendors like Soul Veg, Upton's Naturals, Raw Creations, and the city's vegan and vegetarian mainstay, Chicago Diner. The mania takes over the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse on October 9.
