Beer Specials: Metal & the Dude
Two local microbreweries have fun new projects this week.
First, DryHop Brewers launches Metal Beers & Burgers, its collaboration with Kuma's and the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, this Wednesday, Feb. 5 with the release of Reverse Thunder, an 8.0% ABV imperial red, named for a song by the metal band Red Fang. The beer will be tapped at DryHop at 6pm, and will be available at DryHop, Kuma's Corner and Kuma's Too for the next month.
For its part in the collab, Kuma's chef Michael Jarvis created the Red Fang II, a half-pound burger with house-made jalapeno milk stout beer cheese, beer-battered onion rings and bourbon BBQ sauce, which will be available at both Kuma's locations beginning Thursday, Feb. 6.
Two more burger/beer collaborations are planned for March 5 and April 2 debuts, developed around songs by Corrections House and Russian Circles.
Meanwhile, Pipeworks Brewing has a new brewski coming out. "Hey Careful Man, There's A Beverage Here" White Russian imperial milk stout is inspired, as you might have guessed, by the cult classic film The Big Lebowski. The brewery is celebrating its release with a special tapping in the lounge at the Logan Theatre, 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave., at 9pm this Friday, Feb. 7, followed by a screening of the film at 10:30pm. Pipeworks brewers Gerrit Lewis, Bobby Minelli and Mike Schallau will be on hand in bathrobes to talk about the beer and the Dude, and you're encouraged to dress up, too. Tickets are $7; call the box office at 773-342-5555 to reserve.
The Big Lebowski will also show on Saturday and Monday night. The beer will remain on tap until it runs out.
