The Ultimate Dinner Party
The appeal of most underground supper clubs is that they are secret-- sexy, slightly illicit dining for the in-the-know crowd. But the new pop up dinner series Filigree Suppers goes beyond the supper club model, elevating the best parts of an intimate dinner party without the exclusivity.
Filigree founders Brita Olsen and Elise Metzger put on a dinner part to be envied-- lovely, expertly curated, and featuring surprising intersections of food, drink, art and design. But the hosts also want you to know that their dinners have a wider purpose beyond great food and drink-- they see the monthly events as a platform to showcase artists and producers and a way for guests to get to know their communities in a new way.
The latest "Fruit" themed dinner was held at Rhine Hall, and began with brandy cocktails and a tour of the distillery. A group of neighborhood producers came together to create a playful setting: fruit-themed art and whimsical ceramics by Debbie Carlos, summery decor from Tablescapes, colorful, seasonal dishes by Big Delicious Planet, hand-printed linens by Unison, and fruit-inspired cocktail pairings by Rhine Hall.
Dinner courses were intentionally served at a relaxed pace, allowing for leisurely conversations with guests around you. Just like everything else in the event, Elise and Brita curate the seating arrangements based on who they think would get along, "It gets harder to meet new people as you get older" Says Elise. And sure enough, it was easy to find like-minded friends around a table with so much to talk about.
Elise and Brita are like the friends you want to have, who throw reliably killer dinner parties and who you can trust to introduce you to people and things you will like. Lucky for us, we're all invited to their party.
Filigree Suppers hosts monthly dinners in Chicago, New York, and beyond. Their next event in Chicago is TBD.
