Same as every year: "Send in the Clowns."
"Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" : Blues Brothers
And if they make it, and win, the World Series? "Feels Like the First Time" : Foreigner
"We're Desperate" - X
"It Only Makes Me Laugh" - Oingo Boingo
"All This Useless Beauty" - Elvis Costello
Well there is one right down the middle for Sox fans. After Ramsin Canon completely inflammatory article and now this question.
I am done.
If I wanted to read this crap, I would go to a Sox message board.
I don't give a flying f*ck about sports, but for the Cubs I'd have to say "Margaritaville" judging by all the obnoxious drunks stumbling around "Wrigleyville" all summer long.
Well, cheap shot, you could read into the question that way -- I thought it was pretty wide open. And considering the range of answers in those four responses before yours -- two negative/jokey, one positive and one ambiguous -- so did everyone else. Perhaps you're taking things a little too personally?
Here's a mixture of sincere and snarky suggestions:
- "Livin' On a Prayer," Bon Jovi
- "Join Together," The Who
- "The Boys Are Back in Town," Thin Lizzie
- "It's a Long Way To the Top," AC/DC
- "This Will Be Our Year," The Zombies
- "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'," Nancy Sinatra
I think a few people need to remember that this is only sports, not life or death. Cubs fans, relax. Sox fans, enjoy yourselves.
I chose my "negative/jokey" response for the relentless optimism of most Cub fans (the song ends with the line "Well, maybe next year") as well as the managerial bozos that run the team into the ground, year after year. And for the record, I'm a former Cub fan (and NOT a Sox Fan)--one who maintains a soberly realistic sense of the team's chances.
How about "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better"?
"Blame It On the Rain"
"Sad Eyes," Robert John
And yes, the question is a rather juicy hanging curve.
karma chameleon
"rhapsody in blue"
"Bad Luck" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
"Even the Losers" by Tom Petty
"I Put a Spell on You" by Howlin' Wolf
"Party All the Time" (Eddie Murphy)
"The Curly Shuffle" (Big Twist & the Mellow Fellows)
"I Don't Want to Wait" (Paula Cole)
"Feeling Yourself Disintegrate" (Flaming Lips)
Is it too obvious to say "Cubs in Five" by the Mountain Goats?
"Kissing a Fool," George Michael
"Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing," Stevie Wonder
"Sitting Here in Limbo," Jimmy Cliff
"Loser" By Beck
"Baby I Believe In You" - New Kids on the Block
"The Rose" - Bette Midler
And anything by Raffi, really.
If none of those suffice, I'd settle for "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister.
hit me baby one more time--britney
new dawn fades - joy division
do you really want to hurt me - boy george
and for serious:
go cubs go by steve goodman.
Same as the one I had for best love song:
Zappa's "Broken Hearts are for assholes"
STephen - NKOTB? "Baby I Believe in You"?
I HATE you. And by HATE I mean ADORE.
How about "I will survive" by Gloria Gaynor?
"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" - U2
I'm sorry Andrew, my life is terrible right now and I really didn't need to post that. I've decided to get some therapy to deal with my problems. I'm sorry.
"One More Time" by Daft Punk
if not for it's monotony then for its repetitiveness and fervor.
'Reasons for Quitting' by Merle Haggard
REM - It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
as it surely will be if the Cubs take it next year.
"Dreamer" by Supertramp
Stephen- NICE New Kids reference!
I'm going to vote (hope) that it will be "We are the Champions"
"Me Took Me Cookie To The Disco" by Cookie Monster, on Sesame Street Fever
I Beleive in a Thing Called Love by the Darkness
A Century Ends - David Gray
Center Field - John Fogerty
Wake Up - Arcade Fire
Perfect Blue Buildings - Counting Crows
Don't Let Me Down - Beatles
And my personal favorite:
99 Problems - Jay-Z (Grey Album version)
"Jack The World" - Gwar
"My Heart Will Go On" - Celine Dion
or
the "Perfect Strangers" theme song
"Go Away Little Girl" Donny Osmond
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
theeme song should be.... I Aint' Supersticious...
first off...F*** the White Sox. they better stop believing cuz they suck this year. and if i had to pick a theme song for the cubbies i would have to go with either "Walk this way" by Aerosmith, just cuz its a bad ass song..or "Beautiful Day" by U2.
no cars go -by arcade fire.
every time i hear it, i am secretly singin 'go cubs go' in my hed. it is a new to the main stream scene band, and the Cubs are looking for a fresh start. The lyrics are simple -it is a great sing-a-long song, with a chorus that is great for crowd chanting. plus, it jams it's a good driving song, it moves you, soda speak.
