$2.50 pitchers of OldStyle, Friday Afternoons at :
55th Street - A Chicago Bar.
La Sardine's Tuesday night 25.00 three course prix-fixe menu. Fabulous.
$4 pizzas at Cleo's on Thursdays.
Tuesday is BYOS (Bring Your Own Steak) night at Mickey's on Broadway.
They cook it and throw in a salad and potato, all for only $5. Sweet!
I imagine it changes daily as the chef and the maitre d' see fit. Why do these restaurants you mention have such low prices? Charity?
"It's like y'all be talkin' funny/ I don't understand language of people with short money" - Mase
$1 mini cheeseburgers at High Dive on Thursday.
Also, the $3.99 pizzas at Cleo's mentioned above.
Old Style is only "special" when it is FREE
Is it just me or do mini burgers immediately make anyone else think of obnoxious frat boys? (Not that those mentioning them are, just saying).
My favorite special is $2 Drafts at Alive One on Tuesdays.
It's not a special, but I love the macrobiotic plate at the Heartland. Mmmm.
The Grill at Big Chicks has some pretty damn good specials - $1 burger night being a particular fave. I've gone to the Sunday afternoon feasts and, damn, they're pretty freaking good. And, free. You heard me right. Free.
Pizza slices for 99 cents at Cochiaro's.
i'm in vegas this week, so lunch specials abound. there are almost too many to parse.
You think I'm telling you??? Nuh-uh, no go jack. Gotta keep the "tourists" out. Am I a bar snob? You betcha!
1/2 price "you call-'ems" at Waterhouse on Thursdays. Always makes for a difficult Friday morning at work...
Tuesday is BYOS (Bring Your Own Steak) night at Mickey's on Broadway.
You'd better let them know that it's the Mickey's that is north of Diversey and not the one closer to Fullerton. Nothing more embarassing that walking into a strange bar with raw meat and expecting them to cook it for you.
$1 burgers and fries on Mondays at the Dark Horse in Wrigleyville
O'Donavan's $2 burger nights...I remember the drinks being cheap too.
Bird's Nest on Thursday nights, $5 pitchers and 25 cent wings. It doesn't get any better than that!
1/2 price nachos at Poag Mahone's on Tuesday. You can get veggie nachos or meat-tastic. AND you can get them with chips or french fries.
I forget what the drink special is that night, I just stick to my Ketel on the rocks.
Oh how I love having a bar in the building I work in.
Burger and a beer at Jury's on Wednesdays. $7. A real sized burger and a decent draft beer. Not some "mini" crap and PBR.
hi carrie! we are work neighbors. i work in the red building across wells and sometimes enjoy those nachos on half-off day too. good call!
i know some of you will kick me for saying this, but bar louie has great $1.00 burgers on tuesdays. 10 oz and you pay a little bit for toppings too, so all in all the decked out burger ends up being like $2.50 or so. not all of the bar louies do this i think.
my friends also swear by the specials at the five star on chicago but i haven't had the chance to try any yet.
I am going on day eight of not changing my clothes, bathing or leaving my home. The last time I set foot outside my now, barely affordable, Lakeview apartment was when I wrapped up my two day temp gig in Skokie. I got to work with a pretty brunette. She told me what to do, and I liked that, and she always said my name more times than I thought she needed to. "Okay Allan, when your done with that Allan you can move on to the next thing Okay Allan, Thanks Allan". I liked that too. It made me feel real, and It had been a while. I thought about trying to talk to her before I left but I didn't have the balls. That seems like years ago now. All I can think about is playing my XBOX. Fuckin Tommy Potatoes has turned me into a two bit junky. Fiftey bucks for a large rock of techno smack. The heat is blasting, because since I lost the weight I am always cold, but the reason I am sweating is because I can't get this guy off my ass. No matter how much I punch, kick or combo this prick he keeps killing me. Sending me a half an hour back in time, forcing me to fight my way through last thirty minutes again in the hopes that when the time comes I will "get it right" and my video game karma will advance me to the next level. Like a moron I keep bobbing my head to the on screen jabs. Ducking and dodging blows that don't exist, and when I close my eyes and try to sleep I will still be dodging. I should of asked her out, even if she would have said no I should of tried. I could of taken her someplace nice, blownt all the money I spent the last two days making on her. Fuck money. Maybe next time I will get it right. What was the question again?
skafiend, I think it would be hilarious to see someone walk into the Trixie-fied Mickey's on Clark with a big hunk of raw meat.
But then that's why I hang out at the other Mickey's (on Broadway, across from Borders).
You know what I miss? All-You-Can-Eat Bacon Wed. nights at The Prodigal Son (may it RIP). Besides being tasty, I thought it was brilliant--you'd eat salty bacon, need to buy more beer. Does any other bar do Bacon Night? MMMmmmm...bacon.....
If Blaag The Axeman gets a column, so should Allan.
I live in San Diego now but I pop in from time to time to see what's up back home. You would not believe the happy hours here! Sometimes they go all night making me wonder why it's even called a happy hour. It's like if you pay full price anywhere you are an idiot!
Nuxrs,
but there is space for
only one column! So what about Blagg The Axeman vs. Allan (in his Calvin’s) fight it out with clubs
to the death in a battle Royale sponsored by Gapers Block! He who walks away gets the column!
Bulletin: Whoever had 9 in the "When Will Lou Pinella Lose It?" Derby, cash in your winning ticket. He blew his top after the Cubs' loss to the Reds today....
Allan -
You deserve your own place as the protagonist in a Chuck Palahniuk novel. Fucking brilliant...
allan, that is some lovely prose. where are you?
Half price bottles of wine at Jury's on the weekend.

$1 mini-burgers at SmallBar on Tuesdays.
$1 Old Style drafts at Helen's Two Way Lounge on Mondays and Thursdays.
