I would like to see him revisit the parking meter and take Morgan Stanley down like the suckjobs they are.

I'd also like to see him basically dismantle The Machine. Possible????

Make @mayoremanuel his spokesperson.

Kidding aside, he needs to make CPS a priority. Kids in the CPS spend less time in school than even the state average. Kids in non selective enrollment schools are being shafted.

I really hope that recycling will be city-wide soon. It kind of boggles my mind that my neighbors just across the street have blue bins, but I don't.

And yes, shechemist, I agree on making CPS a priority as well.

It all comes down to revenue--unless we want a bare bones city, the next mayor needs to, somehow, find more revenue. Remember, Chicago has to pay for its pensions, for starters.

He shouldn't waste time on an expensive battle to cancel the parking meter deal, which is very unlikely to be cancelled. It's done. It sucks, but we have to move on.

1. Public safety and police - replace Weiss, ramp up CAPS, fill open police positions
2. Neighborhood school development from grammar school to city college level - serious study of current successes or failures, reworking or dismantling of Renaissance plan, refocus on role of parents in educational success
3. Economic development/Jobs - streamline small business paperwork and fees, fix up and promote areas of the city where businesses could open, develop private public partnerships with community college Associate Degree/trade training programs
4. Tourism - We can't cut our way out of this budget mess, so it seems to me the only way to get a large cash infusion to get through the next few years is grabbing some of that tourist money. Chicago's a great city, and we get a lot of tourists already, so let's aim for even more - this is sort of the low hanging fruit in my mind.
