Being annoyingly punctual from my dad. He's an engineer, and if he says he will be somewhere at 8:58, he's there at 8:58. Also just like my dad, I obsessively check the weather before leaving the house.
Like my father, I know everything.
my mom and i share an obscene amount of traits/habits. the worst being that we tend to tune people out who are trying to give us constructive criticism/help. the best being that we can't seem to stop using multiple exclamation points when we email ANYONE.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I found out when I'm coughing really hard, like there's some tickle in my throat and it just won't go away, it sounds just like my mother's distinctive cough.
Always on time, and by on time, I mean 10 or 15 minutes prior to the time I'm supposed to be there. I have my mother's distrust of society and institutions, along with her extremely friendly attitude toward individuals, and (I hope) my dad's extremely rigid work ethic. Both also taught by example that I should be polite at all times. Finally, I have the restless legs as my dad--we can't keep still for more than a few minutes, it seems.
I purposefully exorcised my mother's habits out of my consciousness in my early 30s, all of which were personality traits.
The habits I inherited from my father are all physical and thus instinctual - pacing while on the telephone, stroking my mustache while thinking, and taking strides too long for others when walking.
My mom has this habit of gasping really loudly at the drop of a hat - when the car stops suddenly, when someone trips, when any loud noise occurs. It really annoyed me as a kid. Now I find myself doing it, without meaning to, all the time. It's terrible.
I know that I've developed a lot of my mom's habits, if only because my sister and I regularly call each other out when we "pull a Mom." That said, I can't think of a single one right now.
My mom asks way too many questions, on every topic and to anyone who will listen. I find myself doing this more and more...I am fighting it though.
@annie - your Mom is Oprah?
After a visit to my parents' house this weekend, I realized what I've picked up from my mom. I make sound effects or hum music to coincide with whatever I'm doing.

My dad had a weird habit of always circling one hand around the bars of his bed's headboard as he slept. The first time I woke up doing the same thing, I was super freaked out.
I've suddenly developed my mom's laugh and often pass her jokes off as my own.
