I hop into the hoopty and bump on down to Lazo's Tacos! And on weekends, they have live entertainment.
If I'm incapable of hoopty-in', then I just hit the Burrito House at Lincoln and Addison.
ChicaGo's Pizza delivers until about 5AM. So good.
Taco Burrito King on Addison & Western is usually open until about 3AM. Good if you're drunk enough.
And of course DINER GRILL on Irving Park. Open 24 hours.
Chinatown! Triple Crown Seafood has terrific array of cheap cheap cheap dishes on their late night menu. I eat a mess of salt n pepper smelts, some head on shrimp, and if I'm feeling low on cholesterol, deepfried heavy cream!
Any dinner with the word Golden in it - Golden Apple, Golden Nugget, Golden Angel.
But there's a special place in my heart for the Deluxe Diner (Double D) at Clark and Devon.
There's a taco place around the corner from me at Chicago and Paulina that is pretty good, and open until about 3-4am. I have no idea what it is called.
The Maxwell St. Depot on 411 W. 31st, just off the dan ryan is open 24 hours. It's got cheap greasy cheeseburgers and polish sausages that always come with free fries. it's a perfect ending to a long night out...
Near Sheridan and Irving: Taqueria El Palmar.
Near Andersonville: Fireside Inn
Near Clark and Devon: Deluxe Diner
Near Ashland and Division: Pizza Metro
You got three options:
Zorba's On Halsted
Maxwell on 31st
Or, my favorite, ordering in from Ranalli's on Clark, which delivers until 5am on saturdays.
It's gotta be a slinger at Diner Grill.
Division and Damen's Picante is open until 3am on weekends.
Picante is open till 3am? Another good addition to the Division strip - Pizza Metro as mentioned above is excellent.
Lazo's/Arturo's - anything on the strip on Western is good times.
In Lakeview, I like the original Clark's on Lincoln at Fullerton (the other two are just not up to par quality wise) and the Pick Me Up is always decent.
I'll have to check out the Diner Grill at some point. As for any of the Golden "franchises" - my ranking on a low-rung ladder: Nugget, Apple and lastly the Angel (I almost died from the Onion Rings there).
-Garcia's
-Clarke's
-Pick Me Up
-Triple Crown (good call, Seth)
-Flash Taco
-Hollywood Grill
-Deluxe Diner
> The Maxwell St. Depot on 411 W. 31st,
You must skip the depot, and go next door to the original rebuilt Jim's Original. Everything there is much much better than Maxwell St Depot. Seriously.

Oops! Wrong Maxwell St Depot. I jumped ot the conclusion that you meant the one on the on ramp at Roosevelt. Jim's is better anyway.
I just had Pizza Metro for the first time this weekend. Good stuff. As for diner options, I'm partial to Hollywood Grill or, if it's a weekend, Nookie's on Halsted. And then there's the Melrose—it's not really good, but it's around the corner from my apartment. I'll have to check out this Diner Grill.
Never eaten at Lazo's, but eat at Arturo's three-five times a week, a blessing that it's open at all hours.
The Diner Grill is absolutely the bomb. I was once special enough to listen to the whole diner sing "A Boy Named Sue" by Mr. Cash on the jukebox.
Also, I remember when the line at Greektown Gyros was longer at 3am than it was at 8pm....
Remember a few weeks ago when we suburbanites defended our fine towns on this forum? Well this is one subject where the suburbs suck. All the good places are closed by midnight.
The only place open in Evanston that late is Steak n' Shake, a chain which is a shadow of it's former self after "McDonalizing". Still it's a decent (but a little less value than it's cost) burger and a great shake. However S n' S is nowhere near the train nor the bars you'll be in 'til 1, so if your driving you might as well cross Howard and try some of the fine places mentioned above.
Paul, I'm pretty sure every Denny's in the suburbs is open 24 hours. You just have to find them.
Weiner Circle - biyatches
I did try to qualify by saying "all the _good_ places are closed by midnight". Desperation or extreme drunkness might make me consider an IHOP long before a Denny's. And I think the closest Denny's is in Highland Park.
I did forget to mention that Philly's Best in Evanston is open (and delivers!) until 2am on the weekends.
Deluxe Diner is my favorite.
Though it should be noted: do not eat chili cheese steak fries and a hot fudge sundae an hour before going to bed. Talk about indegestion. :(
river kwai on belmont and ashland.
only open from like midnight till 5 or 6 am.
some of the best thai in the city. takes a while.. but hey, it's 1am, you've got time.
Or indigestion, even.
Lazo's Tacos or the Pick Me Up. Depending on what night it is and whether or not I feel like fighting with yuppies and hipsters for my piece of the Vegan french toast...
Taco Burrito Palace... I prefer the one in boystown, not lincoln park, but either one will do in a pinch.
Pick Me Up
Zorbas
Express Grill Roosevelt and Dan Ryan
My refridgerator
Boomers on the corner of Lincoln and Winnemac.
Anyone ever been there? It is a strange and wonderful mix of your traditional Chicago hot dog joint, and a Latino dance club. Split right down the middle. I'm serious.
Jeri's Grill at Western and Montrose. Hands down.
What is it about the Diner Grill that makes people burst into song? On my visit there on a Sat. night/Sun. morning, everyone in the diner began singing to "Black Betty" on the jukebox. Bam-ba-lam!
Boomer's kind of scared me.
Jeri's Grill isn't bad. It's like being in a time warp, except the jukebox has Nelly.
Perplexing.
Standees, of course. I stopped patronizing Stacks and Steaks (now the Deluxe Diner) after Leona's bought it and tripled the prices. That taqueria and Clark/Touhy is pretty good too.
Standees - on Granville? Holy crap, I haven't been there in years. My roommate and I used to go there almost every night when we lived up there and got to know the people there pretty well. Ah, the memories.
Tecolithlan on Chicago (Delicious $5 burritos as big as an overweight baby) and mighty fine margaritas as well. How can you possibly beat that, I ask you? HOW?
Also, Deluxe Diner near Granville and Clark is pretty delish and upscale at 4 in the mornin'.
a regular at weiner circle, if i'm feeling dirty,
a slinger at dg if i'm feeling suicidal,
and a veal sandwich at carol's pub if i'm feeling both dirty and suicidal.
The Diner Grill near Ashland & Irving. Think White Castle, old school style. The man frying up them burgers is quite a character!
The Deluxe Diner? Ugh. I hate that place. I love each and every one of you, though!
My vote for best late night dining goes to any gin mill that serves bar pizza after 2am-- and clearly the king of cantinas is the world-famous Mark II.
