International Mr. Leather is always this weekend; it's fun to go down to Michigan Ave. and watch all the tourists gawk at the leather boys walking down the street in assless chaps and such.
A grand Memorial Day tradition: visiting the in-laws. Plus, if we can swing it, a visit with our friend David, about whom many entertaining stories could be told.
on saturday i leave for 10 days in ireland! going with my immediate family, as well as a few other family members --- who can pass up a trip like this?
we'll tour on our own, mostly b/t shannon and dublin, along the southern coast, including galway, kilarney, cork, waterford, kilkenney and dublin.
I work for myself, read: I'm a workaholic. So, I usually forget about holidays. I suppose I should come up with something holiday-ish to do...
an oberlin reunion party!!
Probably the Detroit Electronic Music Festival - I haven't missed one yet.
Seeing Braid on Saturday night, then truckin' on down to Bloomington to barbecue with the inlaws.
Attending a friend's wedding in Michigan.
apparently we'll be enjoying more rain. we'll have to find some way to waste time indoors during our three day weekend...
It's Gin and Tonic season!
Andrew, thanks for the IML heads up!
Looking forward to seeing all the leather-clad folks parading around!
The tradition for memorial day is to visit the cemetery and pay your respects.
Man, I remember the year (1997, I believe) that IML and the Promise Keepers were in town the same weekend, staying in the same Loop hotels. I would bet some of those nice Jesus boys found the lord that weekend, if you know what I mean.
When those asslessly chapped men aren't downtown scaring the tourists they're hanging out at the Leather Museum around the corner from us. This weekend, the gang kids are sticking a bit farther north than normal.
Otherwise, I'm going to be sewing, sewing, drinking, and taking aspirin.
Barbecue with the in-laws, probably. Ahh, being a newlywed. We're still making traditions.
I was wondering if you guys were omitting IML on the Slowdown calendar in order to keep GB 'family-oriented'.
I've got family members in town, so I'm playing tour guide. The Leather Musuem is probably the only one we won't make it to.
-grins at Eliza- Same here. :)
I, too, enjoy the lovely sights of leather weekend in chicago, however, I wonder why 'assless' chaps?
chaps are, inherently, assless, no?
if the chaps covered one's ass, they'd be, well, pants.
but the memorial day tradition has always been cemetaries n' sex - no particular order, but both will certainly be observed (er...attended to?) this year...
Heather, you're technically right, but these assless chaps tend to have, well, sort of an ass cutaway. Even less ass than usual.
Or so I've heard.
Paul, GB family friendly? Surely you jest! I'd actually forgotten about IML, but I guess we've got it pretty well covered now.
I know ya'll are going to be jealous, but I get to spend the whole holiday weekend at a cousin's wedding in Des Moines. Because what's the fun of BBQing with friends or hitting the beach, when I can be in scenic Iowa...
Re: IML -- I figured somebody would give it a shout-out on Friday. You know, to warn all those assless chap-fearin' readers we've got.
There should totally be a band called 'assless chaps'
Friday, Danny's; Saturday, Braid; Sunday, BBQin' & PBRin'; Monday, looking at my watch every half hour thinking about how I'm getting paid even though I'm not at work.
I know several chaps who have no ass. Poor chaps.
Sad I'll miss them. I'll be at a weddin' in Detroit.
hey oberlin person.
who are you?
i'm also an oberlin person. e-mail me if you like.
drinking friday.
testing my five foot skateboard saturday.
dealing with the new cast i'm sure to get.
more drinking on sunday.
Eating meat with hobo friends.
Cycling 70m or so to Michigan City with usuall suspects. Cruising merrily along the Erie Lackawana, Oak Savannah, Prarie Dunland, and Iron Horse Heritage Trails. All spoils of the slow death of the Railroads.
A nice man, Ed, whom I've never met, has offered our party his summer home. Very nice man, Ed.
Eating out, lounging @ the beach, BBQ.
Perhaps we'll even run into Da Mayor...
Biking! Movies! Knitting! Sleeping! and probably a couple trips to Huey's Hot Dogs.
Spending the weekend in a cabin up in Devils Lake and doing lots of outdoor hiking and photography
Kickin' off the summer Friday with some rocksteady grooves provided by Hepcat.
Oh and maybe Danny's also, to meet some of you folks.
smoking up a storm,re-organizing my bookshelves until i get it right, screaming at small children and boozing it up with some old peoplea all while praising war and the fallen dead. why, that's the usual memorial day tradition, isn't it?
I'm going to harass midgets down at the VFW. After all, isn't that what Memorial Day is all about?
Remember stuff I forgot about?
Lacey- is that place good? I live right down the street but I've never tried it.
Any suggestions?
Huey's is great, and I don't even really like fast food. The $3.50 veggie dog/fries combo is unbeatable (be sure to get everything on that dog). Huey's is good for folks without grill momentum.
Thanks! I'll have to check it out sometime.
I'm gonna watch Faux News from dawn 'til dusk, and down a shot every time they mention "those who died for our freedom."
I expect to be very drunk by 6:37 am.
Steve, make sure you spill a bit of liquor for your fallen homies.
