hell no! at 3.35 hrs (201 minutes, per IMDb.com), that is just asking to get sick. no way i can function on 2 to 3 hours sleep right now.

Andrew / December 16, 2003 11:59 AM

I'm there with you, Ellen. I'm barely functioning on eight hours of sleep right now.

I'll catch LOTR a little later, after the crowds die down. (I'm planning on the Friday after Christmas.)

paul / December 16, 2003 12:01 PM

I'm going to wait for the paperback.

stephen / December 16, 2003 12:05 PM

Yeah, those of us with annoying jobby-jobs gotsta get up in the morning. And how would it be any different? You saw the first showing? Whatever. If you were indeed the shit, you'dve been at the premiere, sucka. I have my tickets for 6 tomorrow evening, and that's quite good for me. A good place downtown to see it is the AMC on Illinois, its all new so the sound system should be bumpin. I want to hear Shelob fucking behind me.

Naz / December 16, 2003 12:44 PM

River East 21 is an excellent place to watch it indeed. I saw Two Towers there last year at the midnight showing. Good stuff indeed.

miss ellen / December 16, 2003 12:46 PM

AMC is the bomb...definitely will see it there when I get around to it. I've got time off starting 12/23 thru the new year, so lots of spare time to hit up the movies - yay.

j3s / December 16, 2003 12:47 PM

I'll be at the AMC 21 on Illinois tonight at midnight. I probably wouldn't have gotten the tickets on my own volition (would have waited till tomorrow's evening showing), but a friend organized it, so why not. And for the record, I have a job, and I will be at my desk tomorrow morning. But as an insomniac, I have a lifetime of practice for functioning on minimal sleep.

Roni / December 16, 2003 1:09 PM

If it weren't for Miss Ella, we'd be there for a midnight showing. Instead, we'll catch it on Saturday. BUT...early warning, I am planning on attending midnight showing for Star Wars Episode III. Any takers, let me know! I love midnight movies!!

kegz / December 16, 2003 2:24 PM

I have tix for Evanston on wednesday night. The midnight shows are fun, but the running time on this one is too long for me to go at midnight.

lacey / December 16, 2003 2:49 PM

I, too, will be in e-town on Wednesday eve for the show. I don't want to be a zombie unnecessarily (as a result of watching the midnight show).

Also: for "staff development" on Thurs we are going to see it again. Awesome.

atomly / December 16, 2003 4:35 PM

You're all sissies. Except Jes. Well, even kinda Jes since she wouldn't be hittin the midnight showin had I not bought her ass a ticket.

You gotta go at midnight so you can see all the SCA weirdos sword-fighting in line and arguing about the importance of Tom Bombadil or whether cutting the scouring of the shire was a bad idea, which is all beautiful in a "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" sort of way.

I only wish Triump the Insult Dog were coming with.

Carlos D. Butler / December 16, 2003 4:59 PM

I won't go until the crowds die down. I hate waiting in line for an hour so I can sit at the front of the theater. Half the time, the movie is better on DVD on my home theater system.

Naz / December 16, 2003 5:19 PM

F@$k yeah. I just got tickets 15 minutes ago. Who said you can't get tickets on opening night? Somehow I always do. I'm craaaazzzzzzyyyyy.

armaghetto / December 17, 2003 1:24 AM

I love Tolkien, and I've been pretty impressed with the movies so far. That said, I really don't see a need to watch it as soon as possible. The only midnight showing that was worth it was the re-release of Star Wars. Special edition action figures were being handed out to the first few hundred people in line. So unless there's some premium over and above the "Frist p0st!" factor, I can wait a few days, sometimes months.

Except for Kill Bill 2. I'll be there with nunchuks & ninja stars to secure my place at the front of the line.

Naz / December 17, 2003 4:13 AM

4:15am. Just saw it. A M A Z I N G.

Woot.

Shasta MacNasty / December 17, 2003 10:54 AM

Lord of the Rings? What's that...

Adam Verner / December 17, 2003 10:59 AM

Three hours of sleep - work - it was worth it. I love the opening-show atmosphere, the geeks, the freaks, the hangers-on. At Webster Place there were some high school girls dressed up as elves. I was tempted to ask for a kiss from one lovely young maiden - alas, my courage failed me. Plus, it's illegal.
