This wasn't all that recently, but I "discovered" Daler Mehndi when I was thinking about how India has a billion people, so the biggest star in India is arguably the biggest pop star in the world. Anyway, Daler Mehndi is awesome. The King is Back.

I didn't "discover" Mayer Hawthorne, my husband did, but I'm loving him!

avett bros. - nice country flavor, smart lyrics and really great lyrics. and banjos!

The Aquabats. Boyfriend is a huge fan and I finally got a chance to see them Saturday night. I had a ridiculously good time.

Mucky Fingers / March 15, 2010 1:36 PM

Miranda Lambert. I love the tough-and-tender fire of country girls!

Imelda May. She played her first-ever U.S. show at Martyrs last September; she returns triumphantly tonight to Martyrs for a sold-out show after playing the Grammys this February with Jeff Beck. Opens for Jamie Cullom at Park West Wed., too. She might have the best rock-n-roll voice on the planet right now. Definitely going places, and she started her trip around the world right here in Chicago.

Listening to Pandora yesterday and Malajube came on the 'Grizzly Bear' channel. AMAZING! A Montreal gang of french singing rock musicians with an indie flair. It has been a short love affair for the past 24 hours. Will see if it lasts, but for now, that is the act that I most recommend.

The Megacools. A self-released LP and 7" of recordings from c.2005-07 that the guitarist/vocalist Charles Albright just released in the past couple weeks. The LP is like if Black Flag wore a grin instead of a scowl, and the a-side of the 7" is the best slice of Clean/Oh Sees minimal guitar pop I've heard in ages. And the band is already broke up. Oh, well. At least Charles has new stuff coming soon.

not new but new to me loving Seasick Steve.

luke / March 16, 2010 1:37 PM

um, guess I should pay attention to either what I'm doing or my meeting. Let me try that again. It's not new, but it's new to me: Seasick Steve.

Red Sparowes

jennifer / March 16, 2010 3:12 PM

I just discovered Red Sparowes via some dude's comment on an internet website. I can safely say that I'll be listening to them for a good solid few weeks.

Tons of stuff - must be spring. I'm always the last to know, so most of my news are old.

No Age, Jucifer, Greenhornes, Night Marchers, Califone. Bunches more.

I've been loving blip.fm lately. I always wanted my own radio station.

Finally got one.

Just finally got into a Rue Royale CD that a friend gave me an embarrassingly long time ago. I love it, love it forever!
And thanks for this question! It's great to read everyone's favorites.

Dahler Mehndi sucks, he sings about wanting to marry people.

ASDFGH / August 6, 2011 9:26 AM

Singing about wanting to marry people is better than singing about wanting to bang random strangers in a club.
