As to who I want to win, I'm torn between BB & SM for picture, and I'd like Anne Hathaway to win actress, although I'd be happy with Kate getting her oscar.
Yep, as in who'll win.
Very thorough list, Dave! I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire yet, so barring it I'd pick Benjamin Button to win Best Picture. And WALL•E is such a shoe-in as Best Animated that it seems unfair to the other two.
I think Slumdog will win best picture and it was a great film, but I'd like BB to get it b/c I thought it was exceptional. I hope Mickey gets it and I am going to see the Reader this week so I can't predict best actress right now, but it seems the Academy never picks the actor that everyone wants to win.
My picks overlap with Dave's awesomely thorough list, though I could see Danny Boyle taking Best Director and Shanley winning Best Adapted Screenplay for Doubt.
I'd be happy with Wall-E winning best animated feature if Mike Leigh gets Best Original Screenplay for Happy-Go-Lucky.
Somewhat off-topic, but does anybody have predictions for this year's batch of Razzie nominations?
polanski's 1974 thriller "chinatown." i think nicholson is a shoe-in for best actor.
@jasmine - ken annakin's 1982 flop "the pirate movie" - in all it's glory.
@sb, I loved TPM when I was a kid. Probably as a result of repeated viewings, owing to the fact that it was one of the few movies out in Beta that my parents could play on their two-ton Sony BetaMax.
I think it stands up pretty well to other Razzie juggernauts, like the Pia Zadora double-feature of Butterfly and The Lonely Lady.
@sb - I see your "The Pirate Movie" and raise you with "Butterfly" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJBi-z0SICo) AND "Lonely Lady" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wd7KrlpRAY). Pia Zadora, crap films would be nothing without you.
Okay, third attempt at posting this comment (I promise I'll stop with the links):
@sb, I see your "The Pirate Movie" (which I watched a lot as a kid - what?) and raise you a Pia Zadora double-header: "Butterfly" and "The Lonely Lady".
The Warriors. I still think we should have a reenactment in Chicago...
@matt - there's a remake (I think) due in 2010, though action moves from NY to LA. Details are at IMDb.
Ohh I love awards season.
Slumdog for sure - although I saw The Reader last week and it's fantastic.
I think Kate Winselt has it in the bag for best actress.
Mickey made me cry.
