COMA 9
The California Occidental Museum of Art presents COMA 9, a collection of local artists' works. Participants include Lilli Carre, Chuck Jones, Bert Stabler, EC Brown and more. Turntablist workshop @ Old Town School
The Old Town School of Folk Music presents the latest in a series of one-day workshops designed to teach students about a new musical or dance style in a single class. Today's workshop is the return of the turntablist workshop, as taught by battle DJ Danny the Wild Child. The workshop includes a lecture and demonstration by Danny, followed by semi-private lessons to work on basic skills. The class meets today from 1:00 PM to 4:20 PM at the school; the cost is $40, and you need to bring a notebook and tape recorder. To register for the class, please see the Old Town School Website. Wikstrom's moving sale
Wikstrom's Gourmet Foods, the Swedish deli that's been selling delicacies in the Andersonville neighborhood for over 40 years, is moving its business one block down Clark Street, and this weekend they're having a moving sale and open house with a free Swedish buffet. Tonight, local psychedelic warlord Plastic Crimewave (aka Steve Krakow) unleashes his drone-folk duo Goldblood upon Wicker Park performance space Enemy (1550 N Milwaukee Ave, 3rd floor). Also on board: Locrian and Thee Bastard Swords. $5 suggested donation, show begins at 9 p.m. sharp.
