Student Academy Awards @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a celebration of the regional winners of the Student Academy Awards. The winning films will be in dramatic, documentary, animated, and alternative categories, and will proceed to next month's national finals in Los Angeles. The program starts at 6:30 PM, but the public is invited to a pre-show reception in the Film Center lobby beginning at 5:45 PM. Mule Magazine Issue 4 Release Party

Tonight @ Danny’s Tavern, 1951 W. Dickens Ave. Entrance is $5 gets you a copy of the magazine and discount Goose Island beers. Issue 4 of Mule Magazine features interviews with Josephine Foster, Tim Kinsella, and Chicago jazz legend Phil Cohran, a spotlight on Chicago-noise label and media magazine TERRY PLUMMING, alongside music articles on Pit er Pat and Dave Fischoff. This issue shows art by Jonathan Van Herik, Ira Yonemura, and Yee-Haw industries, as well as a fashion spread shot by Aleks Tomaszewska (of Aleks and the Drummer) showcasing the talents of Soo Choi, Abigail Glaum-Lathbury, Aay Preston-Myint, and Kristen Kennedy. Featuring Performances by: Tim Kinsella (Avant singer/songwriter performance by the brains behind Joan of Arc & Make Believe) and DJs Robert A. A. Lowe, Nina Ramone and Global Meistro.

Cinco de Mayo at Country House

The three Chicago area Country House restaurants are celebrating Cinco de Mayo on May 4 and 5, with lunch and dinner specials like Carne Asada, Chicken Enchiladas and Tamales Magdaleno. There's a location in Lisle (630-983-0545), Geneva (630-208-8181) and Clarendon Hills (630-325-1444).
