Mouthus, Cousins of Reggae, Fortieth Day/Noisecrush, Locrian, Druids of Huge @ Elastic

Five bands grace the Elastic Foundation (2830 N. Milwaukee, one block north of Milwaukee and Kimball, above Friendship Chinese Restaurant). Mouthus and Cousins of Reggae are the out of towners, each offering their own take on the freeform "power duo" format. The Fortieth Day (with video accompaniment from Noisecrush), Locrian, and Druids of Huge form the home team, each offering their own take on drone and texture with rock-based instruments (guitars, bass, drum machine, synth, etc.). 8 p.m., $6 donation.

Phillip Glass @ Ravinia

The minimalist composer best known for the Candyman soundtrack (just kidding! {I hope}) brings his musical interpretation of Leonard Cohen's Book of Longing to the Martin Theatre. What bottle of red goes best with twelve-tone vocals and possible cameos from Paul Simon and Aphex Twin? Reception for ticket-holders at Ravinia's Mirabelle Restaurant on Saturday; Performances both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Democracy Burlesque Presents "Theocracy Burlesque"

Democracy Burlesque -- "where only the politics are naked" -- is a monthly variety show/revue/cabaret/happening aimed at liberal and progressive artists, fans, and sympathizers. Tonight's show, "Theocracy Burlesque," celebrates the marriage of church and state. The show starts at 8 pm at the No Exit Cafe, 6970 N. Glenwood. Tickets are $10.

Guerilla Truck Show

The Guerilla Truck Show features dozens of local furniture designers and artists using rented moving trucks as mini showrooms of their work. The show centers on the corner of Aberdeen and Fulton Market, with info at Morlen Sinoway Atelier, 1052 W. Fulton Market. The event runs from 6pm to 9pm tonight, all for free. More info here.

Tuesdays on the Terrace @ MCA

Kick back at the Museum of Contemporary Art after work. Check out the farmer's market out front (it closes by 6 PM), wander through the exhibits (MCA admission is free Tuesdays), and conclude your evening lounging on the terrace, listening to jazz (the concert starts at 5:30 PM) and enjoying one of the best views in Chicago. Fred Anderson & Hamid Drake @ Stop Smiling

In anticipation of the release of their new album From The River To The Ocean, AACM founder and local jazz legend Fred Anderson and percussionist Hamid Drake will perform tonight at the HQ of Stop Smiling magazine in Wicker Park. Joining them on accompaniment will be Harrison Bankhead, Jeff Parker, and Josh Abrams, who also played on the new album. The event will be moderated by music journalist, musician, and artist John Corbett, who'll be interviewing the players between songs. Those interested in attending are requested to RSVP. Bike to Work Week Commuter Station @ South Lakefront Trail at 31st St.

Stop by one of five Bicycle Commuter Stations during Bike to Work Week, June 9-15, for refreshments, freebees and raffles. Get your bike checked free of charge by a professional mechanic to make sure that it is lubed and ready to go. Hosted by Chicagoland Bicycle Federation in cooperation with the City of Chicago.

Little City Used Book Sale (Formerly Brandeis Book Sale)

For those of us who used to trek to Skokie every summer for the Brandeis Book Sale, mourn not the loss of those jaunty book-slingin' ladies...the sale's been taken over by Little City.
