Transmission Thursday at the Five Star

Transmission, the Gapers Block music site, hosts its weekly night at the Five Star Bar. DJ Brad Owen spins punk, new wave and other indie faves, Transmission staffers run around with cameras, and the bar offers a $3 beer special. Free Safety Seminar @ Oz Park

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) and Ald. Vi Daley (43rd) will hold a free safety seminar for area residents tonight in Oz Park, near Lincoln Park High School at 2001 N. Orchard St., in the wake of a series of assaults in the Lakeview neighborhood. Police will give residents tips on protecting themselves, and free pepper spray will be offered.

Bend It Like Beckham @ Chicago Women's Park and Gardens

Pack a picnic and head down to the historic Clarke House Museum for this free outdoor screening of 2003's surprise hit about girls, soccer, and cultural conflict in West London. "Girls on the Grill" Cooking Class

Cooking Fools will be holding a women-only class on grilling techniques tonight at their store, located at 1916 West North Ave, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. For $95.00, participants will learn the basics of grilling meats and vegetables, as well as get the lowdown on needed equipment. At the end of the session, a rooftop dinner of the night's test subjects will be held on the building's rooftop.
