Dance for Life Chicago brings together the city's most talented and exicting dance companies for one spectacular, celebratory evening of dance. The gala reception at 5:00 is followed by a 7:30 performance featuring Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The Joffrey Ballet, and the River North Chicago Dance Company. Proceeds benefit the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, AIDS Legal Council of Chicago, Centro San Bonifacio, and the Dance for Life Fund. Tickets are $75-500 (come on, it's for a good cause!). The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screenings: Shrek 2 (PG) at Jonquil Playlot Park (1023 W. Wrightwood Ave.); The Pursuit of Happyness (PG-13) at Loyola Park (1230 W. Greenleaf Ave.); and also at Euclid Park (9800 S. Parnell Ave.). The good people who put together MAKE Magazine celebrate the release of their fifith issue with a party at the Hideout. There will be readings from contributors, including Pulitzer Prize nominee Bruce Olds, and live music. The party happens in conjunction with the release of Marvin Tate's first solo CD, Family Swim. Featuring over 100 artists and musicians, A/V XPLO offers up a variety of sights and sounds, combining music, painting, sculpture, film, video, photography and more.
