Dignity Waits

Dignity Waits, the solo show by Jamie Buell, winner of the first season of the acclaimed Impress These Apes contest earlier this year, premieres tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the the Playground Theater, 3208 N. Halsted Street, and will be running each Monday through October 1.

An evening with The National Lampoon

Tonight The Hideout hosts an evening with three writers from the 70s era of The National Lampoon: Chris Miller, Animal House screenwriter; Brian McConnachie, early writer for SNL an SCTV; and Anne Beatts, the first and, for a while, only female on staff at National Lampoon. The panel is hosted by Josh Karp, author of A Futile and Stupid Gesture: How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. The show starts at 8:00 and costs $5.

Movies in the Park: Cuando Rompen Las Olas

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screening: Cuando Rompen las Olas (When the Waves Break) at Kelvyn Park (4438 W. Wrightwood Ave.). The film will be presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Ditty Bops @ Seedling Orchard

On their way from Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music to Ann Arbor, the Ditty Bops join Green City Market's Seedling for a live concert at Seedling Orchard, 6717 111th Ave, South Haven.

Baby Alright @ The Hideout

Poet and song-writer Marvin Tate returns to the Chicago music scene under his Bobby Albright alter-ego to perform a set of covers of "obscure soul tunes" with accompaniment by Baby Alright, a band of friends and associates that includes LeRoy Bach, Azita Youssefi, Dan Britney, and Emmett Kelly. Chicago Jazz Philharmonic @ Millennium Park

As part of the Made in Chicago: Home Cooked Jazz series, the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic performs "Songs from the Great American Songbook," accompanied by local vocalists and the Chicago-based Human Rhythm Project. 6:30 PM, in the Pritzker Pavilion, free. For more information, visit the website.
