The final film of the Chicago Outdoor Film Festival, the classic family story The Sound of Music, will be shown tonight (weather permitting) at 8:01 p.m. at Butler Field in Grant Park (corner of Monroe and Lake Shore Drive).
The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screenings: Dreamgirls (PG-13) at Wentworth Gardens Park (3770 S. Wentworth Ave.); and also at Washington Park (5531 S. Martin Luther King Dr.). Watch a rare total lunar eclipse in Chicago at the Adler Planetarium Tuesday, 8/28. You'll have to get up early (or stay up late) to catch the event @ 3:30am, but they'll give you free coffee and donuts! Free! Details.
What timing! Fresh on the heels of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales's resignation, tonight MoveOn.org is sponsoring a series of nationwide candlelight vigils in protest of the Iraq War. The Chicago protest will be taking place at the Logan Square Monument at 7:00 p.m.
Kick back at the Museum of Contemporary Art after work. Check out the farmer's market out front (it closes by 6 PM), wander through the exhibits (MCA admission is free Tuesdays), and conclude your evening lounging on the terrace, listening to jazz (the concert starts at 5:30 PM) and enjoying one of the best views in Chicago.
