This month's meeting of the Gapers Block Book Club takes place tonight at The Book Cellar at 4736-8 N. Lincoln Ave., where we will be discussing Naked by David Sedaris. The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a month-long showing of film noir films from the 20th Century Fox archives. Tonight's film is Nightmare Alley from 1947, starring Tyrone Power as a carny who uses his sideshow skills to fleece unsuspecting suckers on Chicago's north side (and no, it doesn't involve setting up a Cubs parking lot). Tonight at Danny's, 1951 W. Dickens, hosts "Drink for Peace!," a benefit for Cooperative Image Group, a Humboldt Park-based non-profit arts education and social entrepreneurship organization. DJs Jeff Parker, Naomi Walker, Jocelyn Brown and Josh Abrams spin, and 50 percent of the bar proceeds will go to benefit Co-op Image's youth art center. 21+.

Make Magazine celebrates the release of Issue 6 with a party at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, tonight at 7pm. The Little City Foundation Used Book Sale, which is celebrating its 50th year, takes place at the Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie from June 6-15. The book sale is expected to have more than 200,000 used books, plus author events and other activities.
