Hood Internet vs. Chicago Release Party @ Sonotheque

Celebrating the official release of their locally-themed summer mixtape The Hood Internet vs. Chicago (see story here), hometown mash-up misfits The Hood Internet spin a headlining set at Sonotheque this evening. Also joining in the fun will be Shala Esquire, the Arcadias DJs, Yea Big + Kid Static, and others. There a limited number of advance tickets for $5, after that the admission is $10. Mucca Pazza Record Release Party @ Stan Mansion

Everyone's favorite self-described "circus punk marching band," Mucca Pazza, appear at the Stan Mansion tonight, celebrating the release their second CD. Entitled Plays Well Together, the new album will reportedly feature "A demented circus waltz, a fuzzed-out melodica, unsafe classical repertoire, band geeks dancing in place, an otherworldly sci-fi mambo, a Shostakovich piano trio, live performances from Michigan Ave., and much more." T.I. @ Congress Theatre

After serving time for varoius offenses, T.I. Wants to do better. Commercially, it's hard to do better than five multiplatinum records. T.I. brings his conflicted persona and self-confident bounce to the Chi is what should be a good show; he has a reputation for not being a slouch live.Tickets start at $42 and doors open at 6:30.

Film Noir: Thieves' Highway @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a month-long showing of film noir films from the 20th Century Fox archives. Tonight's film is Thieves' Highway from 1949, with Richard Conte and Valentina Cortese. Thieves' Highway screens this evening at 6:00 PM. "Beyond Hotel Rwanda" @

Loyola University’s departments of Political Science and International Studies
and the United Nations Association of Greater Chicago present "Beyond Hotel Rwanda: Finding Real Peace in Africa's Great Lakes Region," a panel discussion featuring Paul Rusesabagina, the real-life hero of the film Hotel Rwanda and founder of the Hotel Rwanda Rusesabagina Foundation; Ambassador Robert Krueger, former U.S. Senator and Ambassador to Burundi 1994-1996; Ambassador Robert Flaten, Ambassador to Rwanda 1990-1993; and David Zarembka, founder of the African Great Lakes Institute, at the Arthur C. Rubloff Auditorium for the Loyola University School of Law, 25 E. Pearson, from 4pm to 6pm today. The talk is free; a $150 private reception follows from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Rock Against Recession @ Metro

The Metro & Gapers Block present "Rock Against Recession," a series of cheap shows featuring local and up-and-coming bands. This month's edition is also a MOBfest showcase for Inspector Owl, Ultra Sonic Edukators, The Gunshy and The Laureates. The show's free till 9:30pm, and just $5 after that. 18 and over. World Kitchen Learning Series: Farmers Market Finds

Learn more about seasonal cooking at the "Farmers Market Finds" class from 6-8:30pm tonight through the World Kitchen learning series sponsored by the Department of Cultural Affairs.
