The duo of Rakaa and Evidence (DJ Babu usually doesn't come along on tour) is back in the area with more of the underground beats and rhymes which gained them critcal and popular acclaim, which doesn't always translate to album sales, sadly. Special guests The Alchemist, Aceyalone, and 88 Keys come through.Tickets are $22, available online, and doors open at 8pm.
The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a month-long showing of film noir films from the 20th Century Fox archives. Tonight's film is Road House from 1948, with Richard Widmark and Ida Lupino. That's right, Willie's in town, and he's singing under the stars at Ravinia tonight 6/20. A country music legend just doesn't come to town but so often, so grab your tickets early. Austin-based neo-psychedelic band The Black Angels play Logan Square Auditorium, 2539 N. Kedzie Ave., Friday, June 20. The Warlocks open at 9pm. Tickets are $15. See Transmission for more details.
On Friday, June 20 at 11 a.m., the Anti-Advertising Agency Foundation will be holding its first frisbee/hackey sack action at 35 West Wacker Drive, home of the Leo Burnett ad agency. Frisbees will be provided but please BYOHS. The AAAFFF's mission is to raise awareness about the deleterious effects of advertising on our culture and the professionals who create the advertising. There will be more such agency interventions over the course of the month--maybe even where you work.
